QuietStrength works with businesses, product teams and individuals who need help understanding, improving or building something complicated.
When you work with QuietStrength, you work directly with me, Steve Edwards. I’m a senior product designer, UX consultant and software developer with more than twenty years’ experience across design and technology.
Sometimes I'll be auditing an existing product to understand what’s going wrong. Sometimes it’s designing something new, untangling a difficult system or getting involved in the software itself. I also work with independent authors on the design, audit and production of their books.
The common thread is usually the same: something needs understanding properly before it needs fixing.
UX & Product Audits
When you’re close to a product, it becomes surprisingly difficult to see it as somebody encountering it for the first time.
I independently review products and user journeys to find friction, inconsistencies, accessibility problems and places where the experience no longer makes sense. The result isn’t a generic usability checklist. It’s a clear account of what I’ve found, why it matters and what I recommend doing about it.
Systems Audits
Sometimes the problem isn’t the interface. It’s everything underneath and around it.
I investigate systems, integrations, processes and workflows to understand how the whole thing actually works, where complexity has accumulated and where weaknesses or unnecessary risk have crept in.
Product Design & Software Development
I can work from early product thinking and prototypes through UX, interaction and visual design and into working software.
My background crosses design and development, which means I can explore ideas in working code when that’s useful and work comfortably with engineering teams when somebody else will be building the final product.
Books, Design & Production
I work with independent authors on the parts of publishing that sit around the writing itself: book audits, cover design, typesetting, production and the digital tools that support their work.
